We are beginning our eighth summer in Uvalde.  I probably think the same thing every year, but I know this is the hottest one yet!  It takes me back to those summers we spent in Colorado where sweaters and jackets were always kept nearby.  Even though we miss those times, Anna and I have learned to “be content wherever we are” (ref. Phil. 4:12).
One of the highlights of this month for Anna and me is to get to see a young woman that we have not seen for a number of years who is now serving as a missionary in the Philippines.  Mike and Valerie Boado will be in Kerrville later this month and we plan to spend time with them.
I was in school with Valerie’s parents—Shelby and Gretchen Wilson—and we renewed our acquaintance in the early 80’s when we went to Colorado to start a church.  Valerie and their other two daughters were teenagers at that time.  (By the way, Shelby won a gold medal in wrestling at the 1960 Olympics in Rome!)
Valerie went to the Philippines on a mission trip and felt God’s call on her life to serve there.  After completing her education, she returned, married a wonderful man, and has continued to serve there for years. A part of our ministry is supporting other mission endeavors at home and across the world.  We feel especially blessed to have even a small part in ministering in the Philippines.
And those who support Johnny Smith Ministries are supporting Mike and Valerie…
God bless…  we love you,Johnny and Anna
